Children's is searching for a Surgical Technologist - S2ST. This position is for students who are enrolled in a surgical technology career program and are interested in permanent employment upon graduation from an accredited program. Responsible for surgical technologist duties under the direct supervision of the surgical technologist or registered nurse.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Performs preoperative preparation
• Reviews physician preference list before operative procedure and assembles supplies and equipment needed for procedure.
• Opens sterile supplies using sterile technique.
• Communicates clearly and collaborates with other members of the perioperative team to prepare operative procedure.
• Functions as scrub person during operative procedure by preparing, monitoring, and maintaining a sterile field.
• Complete surgical scrub according to policy.
• Wears appropriate PPE and follows standard and policy for attire in the OR.
• Organizes and maintains sterile instruments and supplies in organized manner.
• Watches progress of the operation and anticipates needs of team members.
• Performs postoperative tasks and clean up
• Disassembles instruments and equipment, assures proper handling of contaminated instruments
• Assists with cleaning room and preparation for subsequent procedure
• Assists with restocking and proper setup of Operating Room
• Applies base knowledge and principles during operative procedure (AST and/or AORN Guidelines).
• Base knowledge of anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, microbiology, and pharmacology for optimal surgical patient care.
• Principles of computer science, electricity and robotics as needed for surgical patient care.
• Principles of sterile technique during the surgical procedure.
• Demonstrate competency in sterile processing and sterile supply departments
• Processes supplies, instruments, and equipment for sterilization to meet and maintain the OR schedule and the needs of other clinical areas. Maintains accurate records to ensure integrity and accuracy of sterilization information and equipment operation. Keeping records of sterilized items daily.
• Demonstrates an understanding and ability in using the MMIS. Utilizes the handheld terminals or MMIS to replenish all OR inventory locations, (Core, Anesthesia, and Procedure Room), as assigned and restocks the appropriate OR location.
• Prepares, maintains, and distributes scheduled and emergency surgical case carts to ensure adequate supplies for patient care and departmental needs.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
• Ability to follow all clinical direction efficiently and with precision.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
• High school education or equivalent required.
• Enrolled in an accredited surgical technology program and actively pursuing degree required
• Prior healthcare experience preferred
CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS:
• Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification required, within 3 months of hire.
