POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Deck Supervisors deliver excellent service to all members, guests and program participants. The primary responsibility is to provide overall supervision of the pool area.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Builds relationships with members, program participants, volunteers, and staff to gain and retain members.
2. Relates to the public in a positive manner, addressing member concerns and interacting with participants as well as informing supervisor of unusual situations or unresolved issues.
3. Maintains active surveillance of the pool area.
4. Knows and reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.
5. Enforces all pool rules and regulations promptly and professionally; notifies the appropriate staff member of any inappropriate behavior.
6. May be responsible for opening/closing the facility, as well as supervising staff and/or monitoring procedures and policies during the assigned shift.
7. Knows, understands, and consistently applies safety rules, policies, guidelines and program standards for the pool and aquatics area.
8. Assists with the general maintenance and upkeep of the aquatics facility.
9. Performs chemical testing when not guarding, as required, and takes appropriate action.
10. Actively participates in department and branch staff meetings and/or related trainings.
11. Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
1. At least 18 years of age
2. Ability to maintain certification-level physical and mental readiness
3. Must demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA standards
4. Ability to work independently with attention to detail required
5. Complete before first shift: YMCA cause & culture training; Aquatics-specific training; all required abuse prevention training.
6. Demonstrated leadership, dependability & flexibility in work hours
7. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community and successful clearance of background check.
8. Follow youth boundaries policies and abuse risk management training.
9. Report suspicious behavior, policy violations, and adhere to mandated abuse reporting and responsibilities.
